    Children ranging in age from 10 to 16 are part of a two day medical camp where they experience things like the emergency helicopter and ambulance first hand to see if maybe it sparks an interest. When asked why are she was interested in medicine, participant Olivia Millson said, "Because I think it's cool to help. You get a chance to help in life and death situations."

    FSLH has a comprehensive system for rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients admitted to the Emergency Department. This includes always being prepared to provide brain imaging scans, having neurologists available to conduct patient evaluations and using clot-busting medications when appropriate. A stroke patient has three hours to receive the most effective treatment and at FSLH a patient is evaluated, diagnosed and treated within 45 minutes of arrival.

    The American Red Cross Traveling Donor Center “BUS” will be accepting blood donors at Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare's Regional Cancer Center located at the Faxton Campus, corner of Sunset and Newell Streets in Utica. The BUS will be in the Cancer Center parking lot on Thursday, July 22 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare, along with The Red Cross, urges current eligible blood donors in our community to give blood in honor, or in memory of, someone undergoing cancer treatments.

    Jim HockersmithJim HockersmithJim Hockersmith, a Sodexo executive chef at Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare (FSLH), was awarded the International Certificate of Merit by the International Food Service Executive Association (IFSEA). The award is given to individuals who show an initiative to help an organization in ways such as interacting with the student members and participating in the organization’s events. Hockersmith, a member of the IFSEA since 2002, recently became more active within the Syracuse branch of the IFSEA over the past two years.

    Karen Mirabella, RNKaren Mirabella, RNKaren Mirabella, RN, has been named HERS Program and Oncology Support Services Coordinator at The Regional Cancer Center at Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare (FSLH).

    Mirabella will be supporting oncology patients and their families through the “HOPE” cancer support telephone line, coordinating monthly support group meetings and arranging services for individuals at the cancer center as needed. This will be combined with her current role as the Women’s Health Education Referral Service (HERS) program coordinator.
